The Blessing Tree is a relatively recent innovation to wedding ceremonies in Canada. It symbolizes the bridal couple's connection with nature and is another means to engage the involvement of their guests.

Any sapling-sized tree about 5-6 feet in height can be used. About half way through the ceremony, specific guests are honoured by being asked to come forward and recite some special passage. Any brief passage drawn from a spectrum of possible sources may be used. The designated guests then attach their texts to the tree and may embrace the bride and groom if you wish..

The Blessing Tree may then be transported to the reception site where guests at each table can be provided with the tools to be able to add their own special messages throughout the event. Many of these cards will eventually find their way into bridal albums or scrapbooks, ensuring that the symbolism of the ritual is remembered and cherished.

At a suitable occasion after the wedding, the couple can plant the tree in a meaningful location where they will be able to watch it grow and mature through the years.

Other couples just choose to plant the tree during or immediately after the ceremony. Your options are endless.
