Readings are important element of a marriage ceremony as they contribute to the overall tone that the bride and groom wish to create. They help provide additional substance to a ceremony as well as a change to other voices complementing that of the officiant.

Readings may come from any source you deem appropriate - literary, movies, religious, etc. We have had ceremonies with readings from Winnie the Pooh, The Little Prince, The Velveteen Rabitt, Dr. Suess, Sex and the Cuty, etc. to name a few. If a number of your guests speak English or French as a second language, consider giving one of the readings in their primary language.  You honour them and their culture in doing so.

Moreover, it has far more impact for your guests when they see another guest come forward and deliver a reading. This symbolizes for all of your guests a sense of collective contribution as well as showing connectedness between you and your guests. For this reason, the person or persons reading should usually come from the audience, not the bridal party, as the bridal party is already participating in the ceremony.

When two readers participate, it is customary, but not essential, that one be from the bride's side and the other from the groom's.  After giving a reading, the reader can hug both the bride and groom which makes yet another great photo for the album!

We ensure that your readers are prepared for their role by reviewing with them before the ceremony, their reading, positioning and delivery approach. We provide them with their reading printed on heavy cardboard in big fonts!

A brief collection of some typical readings are included on this web site. Click on the link Sample Readings to Consider to view them.  In addition to these, we have many more contemporary readings available, some of which are unique to our ceremonies alone.
